Provide comprehensive virtual support for students in 9th-12th grade. Promote student success and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive advising program that focuses on academic success, personal and social development, and career and college guidance. The counselor will provide a broad spectrum of services to online and hybrid students, assisting them and their families in developing the necessary preparedness levels and transition strategies to smoothly enter the postsecondary environment.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Frisco Flex Program
Frisco Flex is a virtual learning program for high schoolers. The program offers families with high school students three pathways: fully online, hybrid, and a la carte.
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred
Valid Texas counseling certification or eligibility for certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of and skills to manage a comprehensive counseling program as defined by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Proficiency in virtual tools and communication, including a demonstrated proficiency and comfort with virtual communication tools such as video conferencing, chat, learning management system (LMS) platforms, student information systems, and remote student engagement
Expertise in Online Learning: Familiarity with online learning pedagogy, asynchronous and synchronous instruction, and virtual student engagement techniques
Familiarity with Texas post-secondary admissions and financial-aid processes, especially for online learners
Strong skills in data analysis, identifying trends in student progress/engagement, and designing interventions accordingly
Ability to maintain a highly professional, clear, and engaging virtual presence when proactively communicating with parents and students
Awareness of and responsiveness to issues unique to online learners such as self-motivation, isolation, engagement strategies, technology access, and balancing virtual coursework with other commitments
Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team setting, manage time and tasks independently, and maintain a positive virtual presence
Knowledge of District organization and operations
Experience:
Minimum of three years of school counseling experience preferred
Experience in a virtual/online school environment strongly preferred
Program Management:
Lead and manage a comprehensive program that aligns with state requirements, district policy, and campus needs in a virtual and hybrid setting.
Collaborate with Frisco ISD staff, families, and external institutions, including ISDs across Texas and college staff, to ensure smooth student progression and resource alignment.
Collaborate with staff to compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
Implement a comprehensive and balanced program.
Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and individual activities and make changes based on findings.
Assessment:
Conduct needs assessments to determine appropriate services for Frisco Flex students.
Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment.
Guidance:
Teach campus comprehensive program curriculum consistent with District’s guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs.
Assist teachers in the teaching of related curriculum requirements of a counseling program.
Consultation and Counseling:
Counsel individual students and small groups with identified needs and concerns.
Academic Advising and Scheduling: Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and students to ensure accurate course selection, adherence to graduation requirements, and appropriate post-secondary pathway readiness.
Communicate student needs and course requests to inform the master schedule and staffing needs.
Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students as needed.
Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services.
Professional:
Maintain current knowledge of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board rules pertaining to the Texas Success Initiative, course transferability, and tech prep.
Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
Work a flexible schedule.
